MIST 16U continue to roll at NAFA


The Mad River MIST 16U girls won two more games at the NAFA Nationals in Newberg, Oregon, on Saturday, improving to 5-1 at the four-day fast-pitch softball tournament.

Mikayla Minton had the offensive highlight of the day with a home run in a 6-1 win over Indians Fastpitch, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Lexi White also was 2-for-3 with a double, while Makayla Bernald added a double, as the MIST took control of the game with five runs in the fifth inning.

Bernald pitched three innings for the win, allowing just two hits and striking out four.

Savannah Colegrove got the win in the pitchers’ circle earlier in the day in an 8-1 win over the Siskiyou Jaxx.

Colegrove pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and striking out three, while adding some offense with a pair of base hits.

Sadie Hampton also had a big game, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBIs.

Bernald had two hits, including a double, while McKenna Beach added a triple and Allie Egbert a double.

The fifth again was kind to the MIST, who broke open a tight game with five runs in that inning.

The MIST continue play at the tournament on Sunday.
