The McKinelyville 9 and 10 All-Stars gave Land Park all it could handle at the state tournament in Rocklin on Sunday, but suffered their first loss of the postseason by a score of 2-1.
The Mack players, who opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over Turlock on Saturday, matched Land Park for much of the game, giving up just four hits in this pitchers’ duel.
Pitcher Hunter Carper was outstanding for McKinleyville, striking out five in four and two-third innings.
The Mack bats managed just three hits, two by Joe Tanno and one by Bode Reininger.
McKinleyville scored its lone run in the top of the sixth to make for an exciting finish.
Another loss will now end the season for McKinnleyville, which rolled through the District and Section tournaments with a 7-0 record.
