Record-setting weekend for the B52s

Friday was an interesting night for the Humboldt B52s, who pulled out an exciting 14-13 win over the Colt 45’s in Redding.

Five B52s pitchers combined for 22 strikeouts, including Cade Sheets, who got the win.

Sheets threw 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 10.

The five Humboldt pitchers, however, also combined to walk 18 batters and threw a total of 271 pitches.

The two teams combined for 464 pitches.

In a back-and-forth game, the B52s broke a 10-10 deadlock with two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings and made it count — barely — despite giving up three runs in the bottom of the ninth.

At the plate, the B52s belted out 19 hits in total, with Braeden Holliday leading the way and finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base.

Brian Orr added three hits and four RBIs, while the impressive Eric Smelko also had three hits, including two doubles, to go with four runs.

Cody Banks, Jeff Giacomini, David Vagle and Jacob Smith each also had two hits in the win, as the B52s improved to 9-6.
