The Humboldt Eagles 19U American Legion team got back to winning ways on Tuesday, defeating the Reno Muckdogs 8-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader in Reno, before dropping the nightcap 16-6.
In other Legion action, the Northern Humboldt Giants 17U fell 11-2 in five innings to Napa on the road, before bouncing back to beat Grass Valley 11-3 later in the day.
Garrison Finck was outstanding for the Eagles in the opener, striking out five in a complete-game performance for the win on the mound.
Scott Coffelt had the hot bat for the game, blasting a pair of home runs and driving home three of his team’s runs.
Cameron Saso and Landon Gomes each added a pair of hits in the win.
Saso continued to impress in the second game, finishing 3-for-3 to give him five hits and five RBIs on the day.
The Eagles are now 11-4.
The Northern Humboldt Giants gave up nine runs to Napa in the opening two innings of their first game on Tuesday.
The Giants had six hits for the game, including a pair of doubles by Jake Reeser, who also drove in one of his team’s two runs.
Kaden Ritter, Alex Gorge, Porter Price and Cayden Lee each also had a hit in the loss, with Lee driving in a run.
Dean Wellick took the loss on the mound.
Later in the day, the Giants got the better of Grass Valley, 11-3.
Trailing early in the game, the Northern Humboldt offense put up 10 runs between the fourth and sixth innings to take control.
Kyler carr had a big game at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple, while Lee added two doubles and three RBIs.
Gorge and Nick Parker each also had a pair of hits in the win, including a double by Parker, while Drew Viznor, Ritter, Price and Reeser each had a hit.
