The Humboldt B52s got their season off to a winning start this weekend, taking the opening two games from the Fresno A’s at Bomber Field in Eureka.

Playing in front of a crowd of more than 500 fans, the B52s defeated the A’s 8-6 on Friday night, and followed that with a dramatic 11-10 win on Saturday.

Brian Orr provided the late heroics in Saturday’s win with a two-out, two-RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, after the home team had given up eight runs in the top of the first.

Orr led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Mateo Hamm was 3-for-5.

Ethan Fischel, Tommy Gale and Spencer Duggan each also finished with two hits in the win, with Fischel and Gale driving in two runs apiece.

After being held scoreless through the opening three innings, the B52 bats began to wake up and scored multiple runs in four of the final six innings, capped by a four-run ninth to pull out the win in dramatic circumstances.

Gale pitched the win in relief, striking out five and walking one in two hitless innings.

In Friday’s win, the B52s scored seven times in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding lead and were able to hold on despite giving up some late runs.

Ryan Rivera was one of five pitchers used in the opener, tossing 2.1 innings in relief for the win.

Fischel led a six-hit team performance, finishing 2-for-4 with two walks.

The B52s dropped Sunday’s series finale by a score of 4-1.
