The McKinleyville Panthers lost to Division-I Heritage in the championship game of their own Rotary Tip-Off tournament on Saturday, falling 78-69.

Once again Mack had a balanced performance, but the high-flying visitors were too much to handle, particularly over the middle two quarters, as they took control of the game.

AJ Stubbs led the Panthers with 20 points, including nine in the fourth quarter as the home team closed out the stronger of the two.

Craig Peterson added 13 points and also stepped up down the stretch, with eight of his tally coming in the fourth quarter.

Jake White added eight points in the loss, including a couple of first-quarter 3-pointers to keep his team in contention early, while teammate Isaac Puzz finished with seven.

Mack’s Safe Watrous de Salinas scored six and Freddie Sundberg five.

The Panthers showed plenty of fight late in the contest, outscoring the visitors 25-19 in the fourth quarter to narrow the gap.
