McKinleyville High hosted the Clam Beach Invitational in cross country on Saturday, with around 200 runners competing in six different races.
And it was a successful day for the host school, which took the top two spots in the varsity boys race.
Adam Vera continued his early season success with another strong showing, finishing first in a time of 17 minutes, 3 seconds, followed by teammate West Wood in second, seven seconds back.
The big showing by the two led the Panthers to a second-place team finish, behind only Ukiah, which won both the girls and boys varsity events.
Max Combs also had a good showing for the home team, placing seventh in a time of 18:19, with Eureka’s Dimitri Stefanakis next best of the local contingent, finishing 14th in a time of 19:19.
McKinleyville’s Sebastian Reyes and Ryan Dolan were next best in 15th and 16th, respectively.
On the girls side, Ukiah’s Amaris L’Heureux took first in a time of 20:19, with Arcata’s Claire Monge the best of the local runners in third (20:56).
Eureka’s KyleeAnna Zink Clinton was fifth in a time of 21:26, followed by teammate Hannah Kingstrom in seventh (22:08).
McKinleyville’s Tamia Crackel (eighth in 22:11), as well as Eureka’s Catherine Gierek (10th in 23:17), Kenna Wendt (11th in 23:27) and Christina Smith (12th in 23:28) also featured among the leaders.
