Fortuna pulls away from James Logan at Husky Field

Senior Joey Pontes had 94 yards total offense and scored three touchdowns, as the Fortuna Huskies won their second straight game, defeating James Logan 38-20 at Husky Field on Saturday night.

Pontes led a deep Huskies running attack with 52 yards on 12 carries, including a pair of TDs, and added three receptions for 42 yards and another touchdown.

The Huskies broke open a tight game against the largest school in the North Coast Section, scoring 20 points in the third quarter.

Senior quarterback Zac Claus continued his impressive start to the season, rushing for 45 yards on 11 carries and finding the end zone twice.

Directing a balanced Fortuna offense, Claus completed 12-of–19 passes for 194 yards and another TD.

The Huskies, who improved to 2-1, had 196 yards on the ground and 194 through the air.

Sophomore Levi Nyberg, who has been one of the Huskies’ most consistent offensive threats this season, had another big night.

Nyberg had 82 yards total offense, including a receiving touchdown, his fifth TD of the year.

Jason Besanceney added 53 yards of offense, while Adam Medeiros had a team-high 76 yards receiving on two receptions.

Senior Bryce Sancho added three catches for 21 yards.

James Logan, which fell 41-20 to Eureka in week one, is now 1-2.

The Huskies travel to Ferndale next weekend for the annual Milk Can Game.
