The Tigers won a game they had to have on Thursday night to remain well in the chase for at least a share of this year’s Pacific League championship in volleyball.

Head coach Laurie Griffith’s team traveled to Fortuna and won in three sets, 25-10, 25-23, 25-18.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-1 in league play with one game remaining and moved into a tie with the Eureka Loggers for the league lead.

The Tigers will close out league play at McKinleyville on Tuesday night, while Eureka travels to Fortuna, and if both frontrunners win, as expected, or if they both lose, then the league crown would be shared.

Also in action on Thursday night, the Del Norte girls won in four sets at McKinleyville.

Junior standout Betty Miles continued to play at a high level for the Arcata girls and finished with a team-high 11 kills, while teammate Colby Eisner also had a good game and added nine kills.

“Great team win tonight,” Griffith said. “Everyone stepped up and contributed to the match.”

Senior Kyla Kinyon also had a good night in the win, finishing with eight kills and five aces, while Lily D’Usseau had 12 digs, four aces and a kill, and Karely Ruiz finished with 28 assists and four kills.
