The Arcata Tigers took a big step towards retaining their H-DNL title with a big win over their closest challengers on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers traveled to Fortuna and came away with a 2-1 win, their second one-goal victory over the Huskies in league play this fall.
Dakota Grosveld had a goal and an assist in the win, while teammate Isai Aguilar also scored, as the visitors remained unbeaten in league play.
With the win, head coach John Davidson’s team improved to 8-0-1 in league play (25 points), while the Huskies suffered their second league loss — both to Arcata — and dropped to 6-2-1 (19 points).
Sophomore Micah Okin also had an assist in the win.
“Very proud of our team,” Davidson said. “We have worked very hard and have been focused on the process of improvement in every training.”
It was a good performance by the visitors, who appear to be growing in stature as the season progresses.
“We deserved this win and we will enjoy this moment together,” Davidson added. “The season is not over and we have more work to do, but we are in a positive space for sure.”
No stats were immediately available for Fortuna.
Also in action on Saturday, McKinleyville beat Eureka 4-1 and Del Norte defeated St. Bernard’s 6-0.
As always, coaches are encouraged to forward details to Humboldt Sports if they would like to see their players included in our roundups.
