By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors and Fortuna Huskies won lopsided road games against Redwood League teams on Friday night, while football returned to Albee Stadium with a bang.
Del Norte traveled to Hoopa for a clash of Warriors and comfortably took care of business, winning 50-6.
After starting the season 0-3, Del Norte has now won two straight games, scoring 50 points in each of them.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 2-3 ahead of next week’s league opener against Eureka in Crescent City.
Hoopa’s struggles continued, as the team dropped a third straight game to fall to 1-4 at the halfway point of the season.
The Fortuna Huskies, meanwhile, traveled to McKinleyville High to take on Arcata and won comfortably 36-0.
With the win, which was their second straight, the Huskies improved to 4-1, as they get set for a challenging league opener next weekend against St. Bernard’s, the team they shared the title with a year ago.
The Tigers threw four interceptions in the opening half as they continued to struggle, dropping to 0-5.
Arcata has now been shut out in four of the team’s five games.
The most exciting game of the night by some margin was at Albee Stadium, as the Eureka Loggers returned to their iconic home for the first time in three years.

A hard-fought game against McKinleyville went to overtime, with the visitors coming away with a 21-20 win.
A back-and-forth showdown was tied 14-14 after four quarters and the Panthers would score on their opening possession of the extra period, when quarterback Corbin Green threw a TD pass to receiver Talon Turner.
A successful PAT put the visitors up 21-14.
The hosts would respond, however, when quarterback Ben Klein threw a TD pass to junior receiver Jacob Vasquez on a fourth-down play.
But a missed PAT would end the game, handing the Panthers their first victory against Eureka since 1978.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-1, while the Loggers dropped to 1-4.
