St. Bernard’s and South Fork comfortably took care of business on Thursday night, rolling to big road wins.
The Crusaders traveled to Hoopa and came away with a 38-0 win, maintaining their perfect start to the season and improving to 4-0.
The Cubs made the trip to Calistoga and pulled away from the Wildcats after a back-and-forth first half on the way to a 68-38 win in eight-player football.
The loss was the second straight for Hoopa, which dropped to 1-3, while Calistoga is now 1-2.
The Crusaders quickly took control of their game, opening up a 26-0 lead with three minutes still remaining in the first quarter.
Quarterback Braylon Johnson threw for four touchdown passes while Henry Hinrichs had two TD catches and Jack Omey ran for a pair of touchdowns.
Hinrichs had a huge game, adding three interceptions on defense.
Cal Figas and Mason Noel each also had a TD reception.
The game went to a running clock before the end of the first quarter and none of the SB starters remained in the game after the opening period.
The Cubs, meanwhile, scored nine touchdowns one week after putting up 94 points against Elite, impressive numbers even considering the high-scoring nature of eight-player football.
The game was close for the first half, with the Wildcats responding to the Cubs’ first two TDs with touchdowns of their own, and the visitors led 16-14 in the second quarter before stretching the advantage to eight at the break.
But the second half belonged to the Cubs, who added six more TDs.
All but one of their touchdowns — a 20-yard pass from Martin Navarrete to Timber Bowman — came on the ground.
Sawyer McMahan had a huge night and ran in for three touchdowns, as did Navarrete, with Toby Tennessee and Kaidyn Hendershot each also scoring.
The two teams combined for 44 points in the third quarter alone, including 30 by the Cubs, who led 52-28 going into the fourth.
