The Eureka Loggers saw a memorable season come to an end on Tuesday, as Moreau Catholic ended an H-DNL team’s postseason run for the second time in four days.

The Loggers, who were the top seeds in the North Coast Section Division-5 softball tournament, fell 10-4 at Washington Field in Eureka.

With the loss, they close out with a record of 13-13, while the Mariners advance to play in the weekend championship game.

The visitors started strong, scoring five runs in the opening two innings before the Loggers got on the board.

A normally high-scoring Moreau Catholic team would add two more runs in the top of the fourth to widen the gap to 7-1.

And despite a small rally in the bottom half of the fourth — during which the Loggers added three runs — that was as close as the home team would get.

With the win, the Mariners (15-12) stretched their late-season winning streak to nine straight games, during which they have scored nine or more runs in all but one of those games.

The Loggers were led at the plate by Tiffany Harris, who finished 2-for-4 with a double in her final high school game.

Six other Eureka players hit successfully in the loss, including senior Bailey Brown, who was also playing her final high school game.

Brown finished 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a sac fly.

Ella Moxon also was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Macy Secor was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, and Violla Kingsang finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jaycee Childress (1-for-2 with a walk and a run) and Kylee Secor (1-for-3 with a run) each also had a base hit in the loss.

Lola Distefano also scored a run for Eureka after reaching base on an error.

Makenzie Wolff pitched all seven innings for Eureka, giving up 11 hits and two walks and striking out four.

Moreau Catholic also defeated South Fork in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The St. Bernard’s baseball team is now the last remaining H-DNL team in this year’s NCS baseball and softball playoffs.
