The Cal Poly Humboldt softball team is third in the CCAA standings after a four-game conference sweep of rival Chico State.
The Jacks welcomed the Wildcats to the North Coast and won all four games between the two teams on Friday and Saturday.
The Jacks won 3-1 and 6-3 on Friday and followed that with 5-2 and 8-4 victories on Saturday.
The series sweep was a nice response from a team that had dropped all four of its games at Cal State San Marcos the pervious weekend.
And with the four wins, the Jacks improved to 14-12 in conference and 23-24 overall with four more games at Stanislaus State this coming weekend to close out the regular season.
The weekend sweep wasn’t the only good news for the team.
On Tuesday morning it was announced that Cal Poly freshman Lily Fournier has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week, for the week of April 20-26.
Fournier went 3-0 in four appearances with a very impressive ERA of 0.36 to lead the Lumberjacks to the sweep of Chico.
She tossed a total of 19.1 innings with two complete games, yielding just one earned run on eight hits.
Fournier also struck out 16 batters and walked just one to post a .121 opposing batting average.
The freshman south-paw from Las Vegas pitched a one-hitter to start the series on Friday, before returning to throw four shutout innings of relief in game two.
In her start on Saturday, Fournier again threw a complete game, this time giving up two unearned runs. She then helped Humboldt to the sweep by pitching another 1.1 shutout innings in the series finale.
Fournier, now 12-12 on the season, is tied for the CCAA lead with 118 strikeouts.
She is second in innings pitched (154.1), seventh in ERA (2.59) and sixth with 12 wins, and has allowed the third fewest walks with 19.
This is Fournier’s first career CCAA Pitcher of the Week award. She’s the first pitcher from Cal Poly Humboldt to receive this honor since 2023.
