The defending Big 5 champs ended a three-game losing streak in conference play on Wednesday to keep their championship hopes alive.
The Del Norte Warriors traveled to Arcata and started fast on the way to an 8-3 win, as they improved to 5-3 in the Big 5 (10-9 overall) to remain third in the standings, trailing leaders McKinleyville (6-0) and Eureka (5-2).
A young Arcata team had a tough day defensively in the loss and committed 11 errors.
The team defense did not back pitchers Rylan Kees and Gavin Anderson, each of whom did their part to give their team chance.
“I thought our two pitchers matched their two pitchers,” Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “And if we didn’t make 11 errors it would have been a different game.”
Ben Shrewsberry got the start on the mound for the Warriors, but no other details or stats were immediately available.

The Tigers were held to just two base hits on the day, including a three-run home run by Emilio Medina in the bottom of the third inning.
Medina and teammate Joe Wellick both finished 1-for-3.

Kees continued his impressive debut season at the varsity level with another solid pitching performance by the freshman starter.
He threw three innings and struck out three, but didn’t get the necessary help from his defense.
Gavin Anderson pitched the final four innings and struck out one.
With the loss, the Arcata boys dropped to 1-6 in the Big 5 and 6-13 overall.
Next up, the Tigers will host Eureka in a Big 5 doubleheader on Saturday, while the Warriors will have a weekend bye in conference play.
