Cal Poly Humboldt athletics announced this week that assistant coach John Seavey has been promoted.
Seavey, who joined head coach DJ Broome’s staff before this past season, is the program’s new associate head coach.
In his first year with the team, Seavey had an immediate impact across multiple areas of the program, including on-court development, academic success and student-athlete retention.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to step into the role of associate head coach here at Humboldt,” Seavey said. “I’m thankful to be part of such a great program with a dedicated staff, and an outstanding group of student-athletes. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
In their first season together, Broome and his staff of Seavey and Kevin Johnson Jr. guided the Lumberjacks to one of their most successful campaigns in recent history.
The Humboldt men were picked eighth in the CCAA preseason poll, but exceeded expectations with a third-place finish in conference, which was the program’s highest finish since the 2014/15 season.
The Jacks also advanced to their first CCAA championship game appearance since 2016 and earned a first NCAA Tournament berth since that same season.
“Seavey is a huge asset to our program,” Broome said. “He plays a huge role in every aspect and is deserving of the elevation in title.”
