By Ray Hamill — What was supposed to be a busy Saturday for the Big 5 baseball and softball teams will now become a busy Monday instead.
The weekend weather conditions forced the postponement of eight Big 5 games on Saturday.
Those games will now be played on Monday, while a Little 4 baseball game has also been pushed back until next Friday.
And that means next week will be an extremely busy one for the H-DNL teams, with a total of 32 games involving league teams over six days.
It will also test the pitching depth of some of the Big 5 baseball teams, with five games each for McKinleyville and Del Norte and four for the Eureka boys.
Monday’s games include four doubleheaders pushed back from Saturday.
In baseball, a pivotal doubleheader between McKinleyville and Eureka at Mack High will get under way at 2 p.m., as will a doubleheader between Fortuna and Del Norte in Crescent City.
The same schools will face off at the same locations in a pair of Big 5 softball doubleheaders as well.
Those games also get under way at 2 p.m.
Also on Monday, the Ferndale girls are scheduled to host Arcata in a non-conference softball game.
The local action continues on Tuesday with six more games on tap, all in the Little 4.
In softball, St. Bernard’s will host a doubleheader against Hoopa and South Fork will host a doubleheader against Ferndale.
In baseball, conference-leading St. Bernard’s plays a single game at Hoopa and Ferndale will travel to South Fork for a single game.
A busy week here on the North Coast continues with five more games on Wednesday, including another key Big 5 baseball game between McKinleyville and Del Norte in Crescent City, followed by two more games on Thursday, two on Friday and eight more next Saturday..
Friday’s action includes a makeup baseball game between Ferndale and Hoopa at Hoopa, a game that was postponed on Thursday.
