The Wildcats got back to winning ways on Saturday, sweeping a softball doubleheader at Calistoga to cap off an impressive pre-conference schedule for the team.

Two days after suffering their first loss of the campaign at Arcata, the Ferndale girls comfortably took care of business against Calistoga, winning 13-2 and 28-1, both in five innings.

With the two wins, the Cats improved to 6-1, as they get set for a Little 4 opening doubleheader at home against St. Bernard’s on Tuesday.

“I thought it was a good bounce back,” Ferndale head coach Jeremy Griffith said. “Overall, I thought we had good swings all day and our defense played well behind our two pitchers.”

The Cats came out swinging the bat, racking up 31 hits over the two games.

And that was more than enough for junior pitcher Olivia Gossi who posted both wins in the circle, splitting time with her younger sister Abagail in game two.

Two seniors, in particular, had big days at the plate.

Madison Gossi and Tinnley Pidgeon each hit a home run in game two and both of them finished with six hits over the two games.

In game two, Pidgeon finished 5-for-6 with the home run, eight RBIs and five runs, while Madison Gossi went 4-for-5 with the home run, four RBIs and six runs.

Freshmen Abagail Gossi and Arkana Bullan each also was 3-for-4 in game two, with Abagail driving in two runs and Bullan four.

Quinn Stokesberry also had a good game at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while track and field athlete Dahlia Cantù-Mendez finished 1-for-2 while filling in for some missing players.

“Dahlia had some good at-bats for not getting much practice time,” Griffith said.
