The hard-hitting Rikki Lipscomb helped lead the Hoopa Warriors to a doubleheader sweep over Trinity in softball action on Tuesday.

The senior is off to an impressive start this season and continued to make her presence felt at the plate against the Wolves, as the Warriors rallied late in game two to help secure the sweep.

After opening the day with a 5-2 win in their first home game of the year, the Warriors trailed 7-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning of game two.

But they would close out strong, scoring three runs in the fifth to narrow the gap to three and carrying that momentum into the sixth, where they exploded for nine more runs to take control on the way to a 13-7 victory.

Lipscomb had a huge game at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple and a double.

Earlier in the day, the Hoopa senior finished 2-for-2, giving her six base hits over the two games.

Fellow senior Monteya Colegrove also is enjoying a good start to the new season.

Colegrove pitched both wins and also made her presence felt at the plate with a pair of hits in each game and going 4-for-7 for the day.

She struck out nine and walked one in game one and struck out seven and walked two in game two.

Junior Tylie McKinnon also impressed for the home team, getting a double in the opener, while Angela Hern (1-for-3), Kiera Ashley (1-for-3) and Tsisna McCovey (1-for-4) each also had a base hit in game one.

Roxy Colegrove also impressed for Hoopa, finishing 2-for-2 with a double in game two, while McKinnon continued her impressive day, going 2-for-4.

Ashley (1-for-3), McCovey (1-for-3) and Kalia Mitchell (1-for-4) each also had a hit in the second game.

With the two wins, the Warriors improved to 6-4 on the season, while the Wolves dropped to 3-5.

Next up, the Hoopa girls will host defending Little 4 champs South Fork in a conference-opening doubleheader next Tuesday.
