
Senior Makenzie Brewer had a huge day at the plate on Saturday to lead the South Fork Cubs to a doubleheader sweep over Fort Bragg in Miranda.
The South Fork girls took game one 13-3 and followed that with a 12-2 win in game two.
Brewer led a 13-hit team performance in the opener, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBIs.
She continued to swing the bat well in game two, finishing 2-for-4 with another double and four more RBIs.
Sophomore Leila Coleman got both wins in the circle, allowing just two walks all day and striking out 13.
With the two wins, the defending Little 4 champs improved to 4-4 on the season.
The Cubs came out ready to go in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and opening up a 9-1 lead after five innings.
Junior Hailey Shepherd also had a good game for the home team, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs, while Mackenzie Coleman (2-for-4, two RBIs), Leila Coleman (2-for-2, two doubles and two RBIs), and Kendall Kercher (2-for-3, two doubles and an RBI) each also had multiple hits in game one,
The Cubs continued to swing the bat well in game two, out-hitting the Timberwolves 14-7 for the game.
The South Fork girls scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to open up an early 7-1 lead and never looked back.
Molly Perkins led South Fork at the plate and finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, as nine different Cubs hit successfully in the win.
Mackenzie Coleman (2-for-3 with a triple) and Kercher (2-for-2) each also had multiple hits, with Calleigh Smith, Aubrey Young, Shepherd, Leila Coleman and Peyton Cherry each also finishing with a base hit.
Shepherd’s hit was a double and she also drove in three runs.
Next up, the Cubs will host Eureka in a doubleheader on Thursday, with game one set for 2 p.m.
