The Cal Poly Humboldt basketball teams will carry some momentum into next week’s CCAA tournament after Saturday afternoon’s regular-season finales.

The Jacks hosted Cal State San Marcos at Lumberjack Arena and both teams posted wins.

The Humboldt women prevailed 78-68, stretching their winning streak to eight straight and finishing second in the conference.

And that secures an opening-round bye for next week’s tournament, which tips off on Thursday at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Jacks, who closed out the regular season with an overall record of 20-8 (18-4 in conference) will open tournament play in Friday’s semifinals.

Cal Pomona finished 20-2 to win the regular-season title.

Five Humboldt players finished in double digits in scoring in Saturday’s win, led by Riley Sanz, who posted a double-double.

Sanz scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Humboldt men’s team won their game on Saturday by a score of 65-61.

After struggling for much of February and losing six of seven games at one stage, the Jacks won two straight to close out and finished third in the standings.

Shakir Odunewu had a double-double in the final game, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Zaveion Bineyard also had a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Brandon Bento-Jackson added 12 points.

The Jacks will open CCAA tournament play in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

They finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-13 and were 13-9 in conference.
