The Del Norte Warriors saw their season come to an end on Saturday night, as the No. 8 seeds traveled to take on No. 1 San Marin in the Division-4 boys basketball North Coast Section quarterfinals.

The Warriors lost 64-43.

Justin Cushman led the way offensively for the visitors and finished with a team-high 18 points, but just two Del Norte players managed to score in double digits.

Damian Escalera added 10 points in the loss, while sophomore Ty Blue had six points and seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, it was a good winter for a young Del Norte team that enjoyed a strong finish to the H-DNL season, winning four straight games to reach the Dick Niclai Tournament semifinals.

The Warriors closed out the season 20-11, their first 20-win campaign since 2019/20.

Marcus Parras added five points in Saturday’s loss, while teammate Sawyer Fry chipped in four points, five assists and four rebounds.

The Warriors, however, shot just 6 of 22 from 3-point range.

Despite the loss, the future appears brought for a young Warriors team that featured just one senior this winter and should come back stronger next year.

With the win, San Marin improved to 16-12.

The Mustangs will Mission San Jose in the bracket semifinals next week.
