The No. 1 seeded Crusaders hosted No. 8 Liberty in Division-3 action and won 50-44 to set up a home semifinal on Tuesday against No. 4 Miramonte.
A big-time 3-pointer by Alyssa Boham in the final minute and a clutch basket from fellow senior Kayla Maples earlier in the quarter helped see the Crusaders over the finish line against a competitive Liberty team that battled hard all night.
That showdown was one of four playoff games for H-DNL teams on Friday night.
In Division-5 boys action, the Eureka Loggers welcomed Gateway to Jay Willard Gymnasium and won 67-50 to extend their season.
Standout junior Xavier De La Rosa helped set the early tone for the home team, scoring 17 of his team-high 21 points in the first half, while senior Owen Hiscox scored 16 points, including five 3-pointers.
The No. 2 seeds will also host their semifinal on Tuesday night against Redwood Christian, the No. 3 seeds in the bracket.
In Division-1 girls action, the most exciting local game of the night took place at Arcata High.
The No. 3 seeded Tigers hosted No. 11 Pinole Valley and it took two overtime periods to separate the two schools.
A clutch free throw by sophomore Anevay Gruetzmacher with just two seconds remaining in the first overtime period tied the game for the home team and set up a second OT.
But the visitors would outscore their hosts in the final period to secure a 77-74 win and keep their season alive.
The loss ended a memorable campaign for the Tigers one week after their Dick Niclai Tournament win.
