The College of the Redwoods basketball teams closed out conference play with a pair of wins over Lassen on Monday, as each secured second place in the Golden Valley Conference.
The CR women got the day’s action started with a 75-57 win, before the men followed with a 77-60 win.
It was also Sophomore Day for both teams, who honored their sophomores before the games.
An 8-2 record is a nice turnaround for head coach Bree Northern and the Redwoods women after they went 2-6 a year ago.
And they closed out strong with seven wins in their last eight games.
After celebrating a sophomore class that includes Olivia Railsback, Nora Talty, Caidence Young, Itzel Torres and Macy Yarbrough, it took the CR women a little while to get going, but once they did they took care of business against a Lassen team that dropped to 2-8 in the GVC.
“We had a big of a slow start but we were able to get in a rhythm a few minutes into the game,” Northern said. “We shared the ball really well today.
“Everyone contributed to the win in one way or another. We played together, hit shots and had a great time doing it.”
Talty had another big day in her final home regular-season game.
The former Arcata Tiger scored a team-high 18 points and also had six rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Paityn Erlenbush added 17 points and four rebounds, while Torres continued to impress with another good all-around game.
The sophomore guard finished with 10 points, six steals and six assists, and also had four rebounds and a block.

Railsback also had a good all-around game, finishing with 10 points eight rebounds, five steals, three assists and a block.
The CR women, who finished one win behind conference champs Butte, will play two more games before the playoffs.
This week they travel to Redding to face Feather River on Thursday (6 p.m.) and Butte on Friday (1 p.m.) in a pair of non-conference games.
CR is now 16-10.
The CR men, meanwhile, finished conference play two wins back of champs Feather River.
They also closed out conference play with a record of 8-2 (19-9 overall).
Monday’s game closed out the regular season for the Redwoods men.
No stats from Monday’s game were immediately available for the team.
