Wrestlers get set for H-DNL championships at Lumberjack Arena

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Del Norte seniors will be hoping to cap their H-DNL careers with a big showing at Saturday’s league championships.

The Del Norte Warriors will look to cap another successful winter on the wrestling mats on Saturday, as the local high school grapplers head to Cal Poly Humboldt for the 2026 league championships.

The Del Norte boys are the seven-time defending league champions and will try to make it eight straight titles this weekend before heading to this year’s North Coast Section playoffs, where they placed third as a team a year ago.

Saturday’s action gets under way at 10 a.m. and will be hosted by McKinleyville High School.

This will be the first time in league history the championships have been held at Cal Poly Humboldt, with doors opening at 8:45 a.m.

The day will include three tournaments — a boys league championship, a girls league championship and a JV league championship.

With four mats running simultaneously, the tournament is designed to move quickly.

Entry fee is $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for adults, and HDN, NCS and CIF passes will be permitted.

Championship rounds are expected to begin between 3 and 4 p.m.

H-DNL officials are encouraging spectators to arrive early to catch the opening rounds and the tournament will run continuously until all individual league champions are crowned.

The HDN and McKinleyville High School also would like to thank Cal Poly Humboldt and the university’s staff for working with the league to make this happen.

As usual, Cal Poly Humboldt will also host the Dick Niclai Tournament championship games at Lumberjack Arena next Friday.
