The Eureka boys are finding their groove at an opportune time.

On Tuesday night, the Loggers traveled to Redding to play Shasta in a non-conference basketball game and came away with a 61-44 win.

After dropping five of seven games earlier in the month, Eureka has now posted impressive back-to-back wins, including a statement 63-48 win over a very good St. Bernard’s team on Saturday night.

And on Tuesday they came ready to play despite the long trip.

The Loggers came out firing on all cylinders and opened up a big 21-7 lead after the opening quarter.

“We got off to a really hot start,” said Eureka assistant coach Andrew DeHart, who added “We carried a lot of momentum from Saturday night’s game.”

Owen Hiscox was instrumental in the fast start and helped set the early tone.

The senior standout scored a team-high 21 points, including 11 in the opening quarter. He had five 3-pointers on the night.

Xavier De La Rosa added 19 points in the win, as the Loggers improved to 13-10 on the season, while teammate Ryder Mitchell chipped in 11 points.

De La Rosa continues to set a high standard for his teammates.

“He continued to be aggressive late in the game,” DeHart said of the junior standout, who had a pair of plus-ones in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Shasta dropped to 9-10.

Next up, the Loggers will play at Del Norte in a pivotal Big 5 game on Friday night.
