The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team has advanced to the championship game at the Ed Boyle Invitational tournament in Ukiah after an 81-63 win over conference rival Siskiyous in Friday night’s semifinal.
The championship game against Foothill tips off on Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
Against Siskiyous, CR nailed 16 3-pointers and played disciplined defense.
“We struggled at times guarding their guards one V one, but overall we executed our defensive game plan well enough to keep control of the game,” CR head coach Justin Claus said. “Offensively we hit 16 3s and found a consistent rhythm to open the second half.”
Kaden Erlenbush and Luka Radovanovic led the team defense with an outstanding night guarding Siskiyous’ main scoring threat and holding him to just three points all night.
Marcos Rosales continued to lead the way offensively and finished with a team-high 23 points, while Cody Whitmer continued his impressive tournament with 18 points.
Nate Sweet chipped in 12 points.
The CR men are the defending tournament champs.
“Our group is excited for the opportunity to defend the title,” Claus said.
The College of the Redwoods women’s team was also in action this week, playing at the Sasha Brown Crossover at Sierra College.
The CR women lost 81-50 to Fresno on Thursday and fell 66-59 to Sierra on Friday.
With the two losses, Redwoods dropped to 4-3 on the season.
The Cal Poly Humboldt men were also in action on Friday.
New head coach DJ Broome got his first win in charge of the program, as the Jacks defeated Northwest Nazarene 65-64 in San Rafael.
The 1-2 Jacks will be back in action against Jessup University on Saturday night at 7.
The CPH women, who are 0-2, will play at Biola on Saturday afternoon at 2.
