College of the Redwoods Athletics – Gabby Crosswhite in action for CR at Fresno on Friday.
It’s been a good week for CR’s Gabby Crosswhite.
The College of the Redwoods cross country runner followed up a strong showing at last weekend’s Golden Valley Conference Championships with another big performance at Friday’s NorCal Championships.
Crosswhite, who placed second at the GVC meet, ran a PR time and placed 29th overall out of 70 runners at the NorCals to qualify for the upcoming state championships.
The former Fortuna Husky finished the 5K course in Fresno in a time of 20 minutes 41 seconds.
“Gabby ran outside of herself,” CR head coach Reed Elmore said. “She peaked it at the perfect time.”
The state meet will also take place at Fresno in two weeks.
While Crosswhite was the only CR women’s runner to travel for the NorCal meet, the Redwoods men qualified as a team.
Freshman Phoenix Davis led Redwoods in 56th place, as the CR men finished 13th as a team.
Arcata’s Levi Browne (61st), Eureka’s Chase Jimenez (65th) both also impressed for the local community college team, while Santino Thomas was next best in 69th.
McKinleyville’s Aidan Davis also represented the team and finished 72nd.
“On the guys side we hung together tough,” Elmore said. “We’re a young team and we don’t have much championship experience.
“The guys ran right around their personal records, but more than that they got exposed to this type of racing, which is different than day racing.
“We’re looking forward to getting these guys back next year and coming back to do some real damage.”
