Cal Poly Humboldt women remain in chase for tournament spot

The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team remains in contention for a tournament berth heading into the final day of conference play on Thursday.

The Lumberjacks sit fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings with a record of 4-2-4 (16 points).

Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State East Bay all have 14 points and are tied for sixth.

The top six teams qualify for next week’s CCAA tournament.

The Jacks close out the regular season at Chico State with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

The CPH women have been playing some outstanding defense this season and that continued to be the case with two more shutouts over the weekend.

The Jacks tied 0-0 at Merced on Friday, before returning home to beat Monterey Bay 3-0 on Sunday.

The Jacks have now posted shutouts in seven of their 10 conference games and 10 on they season.

Sunday’s win lifted them to 6-5-6 overall.
