A pair of late goals made for an exiting finish on Friday as the College of the Redwoods women’s soccer team traveled for a conference game at Siskiyous.
The Redwoods women trailed by a goal at halftime and the home team would double its advantage in the second period, but a goal by CR’s Miriam Munoz Guerrero with just three minutes remaining gave the visitors some late life.
It was short-lived, however, as the Siskiyous women answered immediately and held on for a 3-1 win.
“I thought we did well,’ CR head coach Juan Perez said. “We started the game off strong, but we had some mistakes that led to their goals.”
With former Fortuna Husky Raigan Brooks leading the charge, the Redwoods women never gave up the fight.
“I really liked how they kept working til there was four zeros on the clock,” the coach added. “We fought till the very end and I felt like we were in the game till the very end.”
Brooks epitomized that never-say-die attitude and worked really hard, according to her coach.
With the loss, CR dropped to 2-5 in the Golden Valley Conference and 5-11 overall.
The CR women will try to bounce back when they travel to play Butte on Tuesday.
