The Crusaders are beginning to take control of the Little 4 and moved two wins clear of the chasing pack with another straight sets win on Thursday night.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, St. Bernard’s got the better of Ferndale 25-18, 25-17, 26-24.
With the win, the Crusaders improved to 4-0 in the Little 4 and they have lost just one set in conference play thus far.
“I continue to be impressed by my team,” SB head coach Sejay Sarti said. “Tonight I played multiple players in different positions and they stayed on top.
“They work together so well and we have a strong sense of togetherness this year.”
Lulu Vainuku had a big night in the win with a strong all-around performance that included serving the game-winning point with an ace in a tight third set.
According to the St. Bernard’s coach, Vainuku excelled in the back row with some important digs.
Sahara Tupua and Kayla Maples each also impressed for the home team.
“Sahara Tupiua does not let a ball drop in the back row. She is a asset to our team,” Sarti said. “Kayla Maples holds down the middle. She continues to grow and play smarter volleyball at the net doing more than just hitting.”
The visiting Wildcats gave the Crusaders all they could handle at times, including in an entertaining third set.
“Ferndale is a tough opponent and continue to work hard every point,” Sarti added.
The SB coach also praised the contribution of a large home student section that made its presence felt throughout.
“I want to thank the student section and crowd last night for showing up to support the girls,” she said.
No stats were immediately available for Ferndale.
The Cats dropped to 2-2 in conference play but remain alone in second.
The St. Bernard’s JVs also won their game against Ferndale, 25-21, 25-14
