POWER RANKINGS — Plenty of movement in this week’s rankings

By Ray Hamill — The Ferndale Wildcats remain atop the Humboldt Sports Power Rankings after another dominating win over the weekend, but there’s plenty of movement elsewhere this week.

The Wildcats cruised to a 62-0 win over a quality Fall River program on Saturday afternoon, with big contributions from throughout their lineup on offense, defense and special teams.

The Ferndale players have dominated their first two opponents of the year with a relentless physicality and will head to Fortuna for this week’s annual Milk Can rivalry game with a lot of confidence and plenty of momentum.

This is the fourth straight week the Cats have topped our Power Rankings.

However, as mentioned above, there is plenty of movement elsewhere in this week’s rankings, including a new No. 2.

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders have been almost as impressive as Ferndale and right now they look like the best team in the Big 4.

They have outscored their first three opponents by a combined 111-6, including back-to-back shutouts the past two weeks, thanks in large part to their tone-setting defensive and offensive lines.

If the Crusaders — who may not have the same depth as their Big 4 opponents — can avoid key injuries, they should be tough to stop when conference play begins early next month.

The Eureka Loggers, meanwhile, move up one spot to No. 3 despite not playing this past weekend.

In their first two games of the season, the Loggers posted a big win over Arcata — a victory that looks more impressive now — and lost a close one to Shasta.

If you take away a mistake-filled opening quarter against Shasta, the Loggers have been among the most impressive H-DNL teams this far.

And speaking of the Tigers, they move into our rankings for the first time this year.

This is a team that relies heavily on senior quarterback Luke Lemke, but he’s delivering as well as ever this fall, and as long as he remains on the field this team will be a tough proposition for any opponent.

And rounding out this week’s rankings, the Del Norte Warriors drop three spots to No. 5.

The Warriors are coming off a loss to an Arcata team that lost by 24 points to Eureka.
