The Jacks are out to prove some people wrong this season.

Cal Poly Humboldt kicks off the new men’s soccer season on Thursday and will be eager to get off to a fast start after a disappointing placing in this year’s California Collegiate Athletic Association coaches poll.

The Jacks are ranked No. 11 out of 11 teams in the preseason poll.

But that should serve as extra motivation as the team gets set for its season opener against Jessup University on Thursday at College Creek Field on the CPH campus.

Head coach Fred Jungemann, who is entering his 13th season in charge of the program, has a roster blending experienced returning athletes and a promising rookie class.

But the schedule won’t be easy with three nationally-ranked opponents.

Thursday’s game is set for 2 p.m., and the Jacks will host Menlo on Sunday at 2 p.m.

They open conference play early next month.
