Freshman scores a hat trick as Ferndale girls shut out L4 rival

Welcome to the H-DNL.

Ferndale freshman Madison Hagemann enjoyed a stellar start to her high school soccer career, netting a first-half hat trick in just her second game for the Wildcats on Friday.

The young standout scored all three of her goals in the opening half as the Cats comfortably defeated South Fork 6-0 at Ferndale High.

The young Hagemann, according to head coach Bailey Davy, “has brought a new level of skill and intensity to our team.”

The newcomer has settled in quickly and has been working well in attack with her older sister, Macie, who also had a good game on Friday.

“(They) complimented each other well in the first half,” Davy added. “The two of them controlled our offense with ease and set the tone for the game.”

They weren’t the only standouts in the win.

Teresa Catana added two goals in the second half and Makenzie Chambers scored the final goal to cap a big day for the Wildcats offense.

Giana Regli also impressed for the Ferndale girls, while adjusting to a new position this season after switching to stopper.

“(She) held it down all game,” the coach said. “She made some big plays attacking forward from the back line which was critical in our plan of attack.”

Another freshman, Arlene Glines, also is settling in quickly at the high school level and appears poised for a good season.

Glines assisted on three of the six Ferndale goals.

“She has a calmness about her when she’s playing that’s really impressive, especially for a freshman,” Davy said.

Macie Hagemann, meanwhile, impressed in midfield.

“She had excellent vision of the field all game,” Davy said. “Her through balls kept our strikers attacking the entire game.”

The Wildcats will continue their preparation for the upcoming Little 4 with a busy week next week.

They will play Mendocino on Tuesday and Fort Bragg on Wednesday, before heading to Upper Lake for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.

“Coach Brenden (McDonald) and myself are really looking forward to a great season,” Davy added. “The girls have been working really hard getting ready for this season.”

No details from Friday’s game were immediately available for South Fork.
