The Year of the Warriors — Del Norte dominates high school awards

By Ray Hamill — It was a memorable year for all of the H-DNL schools in sports, but for one in particular.

The Del Norte Warriors had a senior class of student-athletes for the ages and the school enjoyed tremendous success on and off the fields of competition because of that.

The girls soccer, football, wrestling, softball, baseball and boys track and field teams all took home conference championships.

And because of all of that, when it came time for the Humboldt Sports end-of-year awards, it was the Warriors who dominated.

Del Norte took home all four awards the school was eligible for, with one family in particular enjoying a big awards season.

The boys wrestling team was named our team of the year, while wrestling head coach Clinton Schaad was named the Humboldt Sports Coach of the Year.

And that’s not all.

Del Norte High also took home the awards for Big 5 Boys and Girls Athletes of the Year.

Colton Schaad, son of Clinton, was named our B5 Boys Athlete of the Year after outstanding campaigns in both football and wrestling, while inspirational team leader and multi-sports standout Tsinte Steinruck was named the 2025 B5 Girls Athlete of the Year.

Steinruck was a rare three-sport all-league selection and all was included on the inaugural H-DNL All-Sportsmanship Team.

So congratulations to the Del Norte Warriors for all of their success and awards this year.

The next school year is just around the corner and the incoming senior class will have a lot to live up to.

A big shout out and thank you to this year’s award sponsors, a group that includes The Humboldt Fence Company, DelReka Distributing, Mendes Supply Company and Bode Construction, all of whose support will help to pay for the trophies.
