By Ray Hamill — It was another exciting year of sports action for the Little 4 boys, with several teams and individuals stepping up and showcasing their talents.
The Ferndale Wildcats shared the L4 title in football with Arcata and would go on to qualify for a second straight NCS championship game, while the St. Bernard’s Crusaders enjoyed an historic triple-championship season in basketball and reclaimed the conference title in baseball.
The South Fork Cubs and Hoopa Warriors also fielded competitive teams, with the latter enjoying their best baseball season in well over a decade.
And with all of that in mind, there are several worthy candidates once again for this year’s Humboldt Sports Little 4 Boys Athlete of the Year award.
All four schools are represented on the list of finalists, including three from Ferndale.
Last year’s winner, Ferndale’s Prescott Langer, is back among the finalists after yet another outstanding year in four sports.
Interestingly, the list of finalists include four seniors and four juniors.
The Little 4 Boys Athlete of the Year award is one of six awards Humboldt Sports will be announcing soon, along with our Team of the Year, our Coach of the Year, our Little 4 Girls Athlete of the Year and our Big 5 Girls and Boys Athletes of the Year.
Before we announce the winners and present each of them with a trophy to commemorate their achievements, we will be naming our finalists in all six categories.
And as always, a big shout out and thank you to the award sponsors, a group that includes The Humboldt Fence Company, DelReka Distributing, Mendes Supply Company and Bode Construction, all of whose support will help to pay for the trophies.
