McKinleyville All-Stars claim District 26 crown with walk-off win

By Ray Hamill — The McKinleyville 12U All-Stars would not be denied on Wednesday night.

The young Mack players rallied from a late two-run deficit to pull out a 3-2 walk-off victory over rival Redwood Empire to secure another District 26 championship.

Playing at Hiller Park in McKinleyville, the two teams served up a highly-entertaining and competitive game in front of a packed house.

And the fans that stuck around were treated to an exciting finish.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth and final inning, the McKinleyville players scored three runs to pull out the victory.

After Mack had scored twice to tie the game, Tyus Scofield’s base hit to right field then drove in the winning run and kickstarted some wild celebrations by his teammates.

Pitchers Parker Morgan of Redwood Empire and Tatum Brock of McKinleyville both were outstanding on the mound all night in what was a well-played pitchers’ duel.

The McKinleyville All-Stars will now advance to this month’s Section tournament, while the loss ended the season for Redwood Empire.

We’ll have lots more on the championship win on Thursday.

The District title is the second for McKinleyville this summer, following the Junior League crown won last month.

The District 11s All-Star tournament was won by Redwood Empire, while Eel River claimed the District 8-10 championship.
