Three teams remain in contention for District 12s championship

The McKinleyville 12-year-old All-Stars advanced to the championship round of the District 26 tournament at Hiller Park on Monday night.

The tournament hosts made it two wins in two days in tournament play with a 5-2 victory over Redwood Empire and will play for the championship on Wednesday night.

Three of the five tournament teams remain in contention, including Redwood Empire.

Despite Tuesday’s loss, which dropped them to 1-1 in tournament action, the young RELL players are still alive and will play Eel River in an elimination game on Tuesday evening, with the winner advancing to play McKinleyville for the championship.

Tuesday’s game between these two local rivals is set for 5:30 p.m.

McKinleyville opened tournament play on Sunday with a 10-0 win over Eel River.

The Eel River players, however, would battle back to keep their tournament hopes alive with a 11-1 win over Southern Humboldt on Monday.

Wednesday’s game between McKinleyville and either RELL or Eel River is also set for 5:30 p.m.

If the Mack All-Stars win that game they will be crowned District 26 champions, but if they lose it would set up a true championship game on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
