Another record-setting day for Collenberg at Nike Nationals

The local high school track and field season ended a few weeks ago, but Arcata’s Skyler Collenberg is continuing to make waves.

This week, Collenberg traveled to compete at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field and turned in another record-breaking performance.

The recent junior and soon-to-be senior competed in the shot put in the Emerging Elite Division on Friday and placed an impressive third overall.

Collenberg threw 56’ 3.75” and broke the Arcata High School record in the event for the third time in less than two months.

The old school record of 52’ 2” had stood for more than 50 years.

In late April, Collenberg set a new record with a throw of 53’ in a league meet at Del Norte.

He would smash that mark by more than two and a half feet with a throw of 55’ 6.25” at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions less than a month later.

And on Friday, he eclipsed that mark by more than a foot, showcasing his tremendous upside once again.

And with a year of high school competition still ahead of him, the sky is the limit for this particular Skyler.

Friday’s performance caps an incredible year in sports for the Tigers standout.

In the fall, he helped lead the Tigers to a first-ever NCS championship and a first-ever state championship on the football field, and he followed that by winning the heavyweight title at the H-DNL Wrestling Championships in February.
