Local pitching continued to play a big role as the Humboldt Crabs maintained their fast start to the new season at the Arcata Ball Park on Tuesday night.
Former Arcata Tiger Miles Oliver got his second win in two starts to lead the local club to an 8-0 win in the opening game of a two-game midweek series against the Stockton Pearls.
With the win, the Crabs improved to 8-0.
Oliver, who also played for College of the Redwood this year, pitched five innings for the win and gave up just two hits and five walks while striking out seven.
He has thrown a team-high 11 innings so far this summer, including his first start for the team against the Humboldt Eagles last week, and he has yet to allow an earned run.
He also has a team-high 19 strikeouts and is now 2-0 on the mound this summer, while former Eureka Logger Myles Standish is also off to an impressive start and is 1-0 in two starts.
Spencer Jacobs pitched the final four innings to help seal the win on Tuesday, giving up two hits and no walks and striking out six.
The two Crabs pitchers got plenty of offensive help, as the team scored a pair of runs in each of the third and fourth innings to take control, before ending the game as a contest with four more runs in the seventh.
They out-hit the visitors 7-4 on the night.
Jacob Pappas led the way at the plate for the Crabs and was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run.
Cameron Sewell and Adam Enyart each also had a double in the win, while another former Eureka Logger, Keenan Morris, was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Morris has now hit successfully in six straight games in the lead-off spot and is hitting .382 for the summer.
The Crabs and Pearls will close out the series at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
