Cubs hope the season will be a learning experience for young team

With just one senior on this year’s roster, it was a challenging season for the South Fork baseball team.

The Cubs closed out the season with a 10-0 loss to Ferndale in five innings on Thursday and finished 1-11 in the Little 4.

However, first-year head coach Alex Finn hopes it will be a learning experience for players and coach and that the Cubs can come back stronger in 2026.

“We lost a lot, but we played a lot, so hopefully we learned a lot,” he said. “With only one senior (this year), I hope next year will be little more fruitful.”

Despite their struggles in terms of wins and losses, there were some bright spots nonetheless.

Including the play of Travis “T-Bone” Way, who had another solid outing on Thursday.

“Travis Way pitched well enough for most of the game, but Ferndale’s experience was too much at the end of the day,” the head coach said.

Kale Puno and Shawn Schmidt each had a hit for the Cubs.
