Schedules finalized for 2025 Charles Lakin tournaments

Photos by Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – After winning a first conference title in 35 years, the South Fork Cubs have received a No. 1 seed for this year’s Charles Lakin softball tournament.

By Ray Hamill — The schedule for both the baseball and softball Charles Lakin tournaments have been finalized after Thursday’s conference finales.

A couple of last-minute changes have been included in order to accommodate teams that have farther to travel.

All four conference champions — the Del Norte boys and girls, the St. Bernard’s boys and South Fork girls — all will receive top seeds and a first-round bye.

The action gets under way on Tuesday, with four first-round games, including two in baseball and two in softball.

The baseball tournament will take place at Belotti Field across from the Redwood Acres in Eureka, while the softball tournament, as usual, will take place at the Arcata Sports Complex.

The opening day of the softball tournament sees Hoopa play McKinleyville at 5 p.m. and Fortuna match up against St. Bernard’s at 7 p.m.

McKinleville will also play Hoopa on the opening day of the baseball tournament at 4 p.m., followed by Ferndale and Eureka at 7 p.m.

There will be no tournament games on Wednesday, before the action continues with four semifinals on Thursday.

Both Del Norte teams will play the first games of the day because they will travel farther.

In softball, the Del Norte girls will play the winner of Tuesday’s Hoopa/McKinleyville game at 5 p.m., followed by Little 4 champion South Fork and the winner of the Fortuna/St. Bernard’s game at 7.

The Del Norte boys will open against the winner of the Ferndale/Eureka game at 4 p.m., followed by St. Bernard’s against the winner of the McKinleyville/Hoopa game at 7.

Both championship games will take place on Friday evening, with the softball decider set for 5 p.m. and the baseball final at 7.
