By Ray Hamill — The schedules for this year’s Charles Lakin Tournaments have been announced by the H-DNL.

The league’s postseason baseball and softball tournaments will take place next week with five games in each and the action getting under way on Tuesday.

The four tournament semifinals will take place on Thursday, with both championship games set for Friday.

The Lakin softball tournament will take place at the Arcata Sports Complex, as usual, but there will be change of venue for this year’s baseball tournament.

With ongoing construction at the Arcata Ball Park, the tournament has been moved to Belotti Field across from the Redwood Acres in Eureka.

While the seeds have yet to be finalized, the opening rounds of games will see the No. 2 seeds in the Little 4 take on the No. 3 seeds in the Big 5 and vice versa.

All four No. 1 seeds will receive a first-round bye.

On Tuesday, in softball, the L4 No. 2 will play the B5 No. 3 at 5 p.m., and the L4 No. 3 will play the B5 No. 2 at 7 p.m.

The winner of the opening game will then the Big 5 No. 1 seed (Del Norte) on Thursday at 5 p.m., followed by the winner of game two matching up against Little 4 champion South Fork at 7.

The Del Norte girls are guaranteed the top seed from the Big 5 even if they end up sharing the title with the Fortuna Huskies because they won the conference series between the two schools.

(However, if they should share the title, then a playoff game will be required to see which team gets the conference’s automatic berth for the upcoming North Coast Section playoffs.)

It’s the same for baseball, with the Del Norte boys guaranteed the top seed even if they share the title with McKinleyville because they took two of three games against the Panthers in conference play.

The Lakin baseball tournament gets under way with the B5 No. 2 seed playing the L4 No. 3 at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by the L4 No. 2 and B5 No. 3 at 7.

The winner of game one will then play L4 champion St. Bernard’s in the first of Thursday’s semifinals at 4 p.m., followed by B5 top seed Del Norte against the winner of Tuesday’s Game two at 7.

Friday’s championship games will be played at 5 p.m. (softball) and 7 p.m. (baseball).

Higher seeds will be the home teams for all games.

No school passes will be accepted for tournament games, but HDN and NCS passes will be honored.

Admission will be the same as for regular H-DNL games ($8 and $5).

The schedule may be adjusted to accommodate early game times for teams that have travel the farthest (Del Norte, Hoopa and South Fork).
