The Arcata Tigers made it two straight wins in Big 5 baseball with a 10-4 victory at Fortuna on Wednesday.
The visitors scored four runs in the top of the third and never trailed after that, improving to 2-2 in conference and 10-5 overall.
The victory lifts them into third in the Big 5 standings, overtaking the 2-3 Eureka Loggers who had a midweek bye in conference play.
Ben Lukens pitched three strong innings for the win on the mound, but head coach Troy Ghisetti was able to keep his team ace under 40 pitches so he will be available for a Saturday doubleheader at McKinleyville.
“I thought we did some good things, and being able to save our pitching for McKinleyville was a huge bonus for us,” the longtime Arcata head coach said. “Defensively we played well and we were able to run the bases and do some good things.
“I was very happy with the win.”
Tanner Kees led the Tigers at the plate and finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Emilio Medina was 2-for-3 with a double.
Gavin Anderson also had a pair of hits in the win, while Lukens, Finn Warner, Liam Gorona and Charlie Mager each had a hit.
Gorona and AJ Greenway both pitched well in relief for the Tigers.
With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 0-5 in the Big 5.
They did, however, make some noise at the plate and gave themselves a chance to score some runs.
Chandler Crenshaw led the way and was 2-for-4, while Conner McClendon, Mariqus Ludd, Blayne Barrote, Tanner Franklin and Alex Sharkey each also had a base hit.
