Romero leads impressive Warriors to dominating victory at Trinity

A fast start to the new baseball season for the Hoopa Warriors is showing no signs of slowing down.

On Monday, new head coach Aaron Willians and his players stretched their winning streak to three straight games as they improved to 3-1 with a dominating 20-6 win at Trinity.

Senior Brandon Romero continued to shine in the win, both at the plate and on the mound.

Romero finished 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and an RBI and scored four runs.

He took over from starting pitcher Allen Kane with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning and posted three quick strikeouts to get out of the jam.

The senior pitcher threw four innings, giving up just one earned run on three hits and no walks and he struck out eight on his way to the victory.

“Brandon came in and pitched a gem,” Williams said.

He also got plenty of offensive support.

The Hoopa bats accounted for 16 hits in the win, with nine players hitting successfully.

Carlos Anzora finished 3-for-5 and scored three runs, while Brett Myers went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, and Trystan Billings was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Logan Hulbutta also was 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs, while Kane continued to showcase his power at the plate with another double and he has now doubled in all four games this season.

“Our whole team hit the ball well,” Williams said. “So it was a really good day for us.”

Cher-geesh Mace, Keyton Gulley and Lyle McKinnon each also had a base hit in the win.

Next up, the Warriors will open conference play at South Fork next Tuesday.
