Surging Lumberjacks now the hottest team in CCAA basketball

The Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team continued to roll with a fifth straight win in the California Collegiate Athletic Association on Saturday afternoon.

The Jacks traveled to Cal State San Bernardino and ended the Coyotes’ five game-winning streak with a 91-81 victory.

Wit the win, the red-hot Jacks improved to 8-6 in conference (12-7 overall) and moved within one win of the third-place Coyotes (9-5, 16-7).

The Jacks led by three at halftime and outscored the home team 49-42 in the second half.

Rob Diaz III had a monster game for the visitors and finished with a team-high 27 points, as well as seven assists.

Kalib LaCount also impressed in the win and added 18 points and a team-best nine assists, while Aidan Fowler chipped in 14 points and Mason Marsai had 12 points.

Kyle Frelow finished with a team-high seven rebounds, while Josiah Sanders had six.

The Jacks will try to keep their good run going when they return to Lumberjack Arena to host Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday night.

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Cal Poly Humboldt women also were in action at San Bernardino on Saturday but lost 57-43.

The loss was the seventh straight for the struggling Jacks, who fell to 4-10 in conference and 5-15 overall.
