The Del Norte Warriors enjoyed another big showing at the weekend Rumble on the Rogue wrestling tournament, as they continue to build ahead of next month’s H-DNL and North Coast Section championships.
The Del Norte boys and girls teams traveled for the tournament and took first place in the combined tournaments standings.
And they did it in dominating fashion, scoring 214 points, which was 71.5 points ahead of the host school, Rogue River, in second.
The boys team was particularly impressive, with 13 of their 16 wrestlers on hand placing in the top three in their brackets.
The Del Norte girls also impressed with all seven of the Warriors in action placing in the top four in their weight divisions.
The top performance of the day once again came from dominating senior Colton Schaad, who not only took first place in his weight class but also was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Upper Weight Wrestler.
His teammates James Gensaw Jr., Braydan Johnson and Remington Escobedo each also placed first for the Del Norte boys.
Wyatt Sharp, Aaron Burger and Ricardo Borges each placed second in their weight divisions, while Treven Donahue, CJ Norris, Ben Wieland, Blake Owen, Davion Johnson and Davion Johnson were all third in their brackets.
Rounding out a big day for the Del Norte boys, Jacob Burger finished fourth in his division, while Anthony Garcia placed fifth and Coulter Chilcott finished sixth, showcasing the depth head coach Clinton Schaad has on his roster this winter.
The Del Norte girls also showcased some depth as they look to challenge the rest of the top league programs for this year’s H-DBNL championships, which will be held at Arcata High School on Feb. 15.
