With their full complement of players back on the court, the Arcata Tigers are finding their feet at an opportune time.

The Tigers, who open league play against Del Norte next week, are competing at the Marin Catholic tournament and won their second straight tourney game on Saturday, beating Central Catholic 60-43.

More importantly, the Arcata boys turned in a strong performance.

“We played really great defense, and it might have been our most complete game of the season so far,” head coach Kellen Maynard said.

Senior Luke Moxon led the way for the Tigers and scored a team-high 23 points in the win, including five 3-pointers.

Lucian Rodriguez also impressed and added 13 points as the Tigers improved to 10-4

Arcata opened tournament play with a 60-45 loss to Redmond on Thursday before beating Mills 71-43 on Friday.

The Tigers will play for the tournament consolation on Monday against Heritage.

Moxon scored a team-best 10 points in Thursday’s loss despite being double teamed all game, while Dayquan Dunn added 11 points and the in-form Jack Luh chipped in eight points.

Moxon also scored 21 points against Mills, while Dunn had his best game yet since joining the team after the football season ended in mid December and finished with 19 points.

It took the Tigers a little while to get going, but once they settled into the gamer they took control.

“Overall, it was a better team effort,” Maynard said.
