By Ray Hamill — Just a few days after their historic state championship win, the Arcata players will be honored with a parade on Wednesday afternoon.
On Saturday night, the Tigers capped the greatest season in program history with a thrilling overtime victory in the state Division 6-AA championship game in Fullerton.
The North Coast Section and NorCal regional champs defeated Portola, 27-21.
Wednesday’s parade will start at the high school at 1:30 p.m. and will follow a route along 16th street to H Street to the plaza.
After going around the plaza, the parade will head back up G Street to 16th, and then back to the high school.
Arcata boosters and fans would like to see “as many community members” as possible lining the route.
The state championship is the first for the school in any sport and is the latest in a long line of recent success for H-DNL football.
The Tigers finished the season with a record of 14-1 and were one of three state champions from the NCS, a group that also included Moreau Catholic, which defeated St. Bernard’s, Del Norte and Ferndale in this year’s playoffs.
Arcata junior quarterback Luke Lemke scored three touchdowns in Saturday’s win, including a one-yard, game-clinching score in OT.
He was named player of the game.
