Eureka’s Everett Docherty and Arcata’s Evan Poston both represented the H-DNL at the California cross country state championships over the weekend.
The impressive duo traveled to Woodward Park in Fresno for one of of the biggest high school meets in the nation on Saturday.
Docherty, who won this year’s league championship at the Arcata Marsh last month, led the way for the H-DNL and placed 74th overall in a field of 201 runners in the Division-4 race.
The senior league champ crossed the finish line of the 5K race in a time of 16 minutes, 34.6 seconds.
Poston was just 11 seconds back and placed 97th in a time of 16:45.3.
Both runners, who were making their first-ever appearance at the prestigious event, placed in the top half.
Poston was one of the most impressive young runners in the division.
The Arcata standout was the 14th fastest sophomore.
